As per July 2022 or upon agreement we are looking for a Country Director Haiti (f/m) 100% based in Port-au-prince.Helvetas has been active in Haiti for more than 40 years. Currently, the portfolio comprises of twelve projects contributing to the economic and social development of the country. The current programme strategy (2021–2024) focuses on adaptation to climate change, environmental governance and economic development. Helvetas aims at strengthening the capacities of local actors and counts both government institutions and civil society organisations as its valued partners. Gender, social equity and conflict sensitive implementation approaches coupled with a focus on policy dialogue contribute to sustainable development.MAIN TASKSAs Country Director for Haiti, you ensure that the country programme is implemented efficiently and effectively within the frame of the Helvetas organisational policies and the country strategy for Haiti. You ensure that the organizational working principles are applied, and the country programme strategy is implemented. You further build and foster the network and relationships with central and local governments, strategic donor partners and non-governmental development partners. Active engagement in acquisition endeavours, to diversify and further consolidate a sound project portfolio of Helvetas in Haiti, is a crucial part of your function. You conduct regular project supervision visits to the operational areas and systematically explore and develop opportunities to strengthen the relevance and impact of the Helvetas support to local communities and implementing partners. The duty station is Port-au-Prince, with regular travels in the region.YOUR QUALIFICATIONSFor this challenging position, you present an academic degree (MA, MSC or equivalent) in Social or Natural Science, Economic or Development Studies or in a similar domain. You have at least 5 years of experience in a senior management position in development cooperation and at least 10 years of experience in development cooperation overall, preferably some in Haiti or generally in fragile contexts. You bring along excellent leadership qualities as well as valuable experience in coaching and developing individuals and teams in intercultural contexts.Sound knowledge and experience in project cycle and financial management including outcome-based M&E systems, in strategic and budgeting processes, a track record in networking and policy dialogue with government as well as external support agencies and in successful acquisition of projects and mandates are mandatory. In addition, you are sensitized to issues of gender and social justice and to conflict-sensitive programme management.Excellent communication competences are a must. Conflict and insecurity create humanitarian needs, threaten the lives and safety of local populations and staff, create additional obstacles for project implementation, and increase the risk that projects and programmes do harm by unintentionally contributing to conflict.Helvetas is committed to working in a conflict sensitive manner to ensure that its projects and programmes avoid doing harm and rather contribute to social cohesion.
