Eirene Suisse is a secular NGO that has been active in development cooperation since 1963. In the countries where we are active, our objective is to strengthen and enhance local dynamics in favor of the promotion of peace and human rights. We specialize in the exchange of personnel in development cooperation, therefore by sending qualified professionals from Switzerland to support the development projects of our local partners, in our three main areas of intervention: Central America (Nicaragua, El Salvador), Quisqueya (Haiti) and the African Great Lakes region (Rwanda, Uganda, DRC). These professionals have the status of « volunteer ».
The local partner:
YOLRED (Youth Leaders for Restoration and Development) ) is a Ugandan community-based organization founded and led by former child soldiers from northern Uganda. Strengthened by their experience, its members are committed to peace, reconciliation and local development. The organization works to reintegrate former child soldiers and their children, who face social exclusion, poverty and heavy trauma. To respond to this, YOLRED sets up reconciliation workshops and entrepreneurship training, promoting socio-economic integration. Despite these actions, corruption, lack of resources and institutional weaknesses are holding back progress. In this context, YOLRED plays a crucial role in offering young people and women a chance to rebuild their lives.
Purpose of the position
The main objective of the position is to contribute to the sustainable improvement of the quality, coherence and impact of YOLRED's psychosocial and peacebuilding interventions, by:
- strengthening social work and psychosocial support practices,
- supporting the local team through mentoring and reflective practice,
- structuring a contextualized and documented methodology,
- consolidating monitoring, evaluation and organizational learning systems.
The social worker will work with former child soldiers and children born in captivity (CBC) to support their psychosocial healing, social reintegration and socio-economic empowerment, while accompanying the YOLRED team in the sustainable appropriation of social work, psychosocial support and reflective analysis approaches.
Tasks and activities :
Operational support to the project
- Provide technical and methodological advice to the YOLRED team on social work, psychosocial support and accompaniment of people affected by trauma related to armed conflict, and support the implementation of these approaches in project activities;
- Facilitate and/or co-facilitate individual and group psychosocial support sessions with former child soldiers and children born in captivity (CBC), respecting culturally sensitive and person-centered approaches;
- Support the preparation, facilitation and evaluation of forgiveness and reconciliation workshops, incorporating a psychosocial perspective and paying particular attention to the management of emotions, trauma and group dynamics;
- Support the psychosocial counselling for beneficiaries enrolled in entrepreneurship and economic reintegration training programmes, to strengthen their resilience, confidence and empowerment and assist in referring beneficiaries to structures suited to their needs.
Technical and methodological support
- Contribute to the development of YOLRED's social work and reconciliation methodology, by co-authoring and updating methodological documents and reflective reports;
- Ensure the integration of gender, disability and inclusion approaches.
- Contribute to improving the overall care of beneficiaries in a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment, and participate in monitoring their social, family and community reintegration.
Institutional support
- Strengthen YOLRED's capacity to take ownership and sustainably integrate social work and psychosocial support into its institutional approach and daily practices, in particular through internal training, practice analysis sessions, mentoring and the development of adapted teaching tools;
- Support the collection, analysis and systematization of psychosocial and community data, including beneficiary monitoring, database management and documentation of change pathways;
- Participate in the development of the network of local partners (community leaders, institutions, specialized services);
- Contribute to the project's communication, capitalization and outreach activities, in particular by sharing stories of change, lessons learned and news related to the project.

Specificities of the position:

Objectif du poste

Activités et tâches :
Appui opérationnel au projet
- Prodiguer des conseils techniques et méthodologiques à l'équipe de YOLRED en matière de travail social, de soutien psychosocial et d'accompagnement de personnes victimes de traumatismes liés aux conflits armés, et appuyer la mise en œuvre de ces approches dans les activités du projet ;
- Animer et/ou coanimer des séances de soutien psychosocial individuel et de groupe auprès des anciens enfants soldats et des enfants né·es en captivité (CBC), dans le respect des approches culturellement sensibles et centrées sur la personne ;
- Appuyer la préparation, la facilitation et l'évaluation des ateliers de pardon et de réconciliation, en intégrant une lecture psychosociale et une attention particulière à la gestion des émotions, des traumatismes et des dynamiques de groupe ;

Social worker with knowledge in agroecology – Uganda (paid volunteer)

Since its creation, [Hashtag Gulu Initiative](https://eirenesuisse.ch/partenaires/hashtag-gulu/) has positioned itself as a major player in supporting children and young adults who depend and rely on the streets to survive (Street Connected Children & Youth – SCCY) in Gulu, Uganda. The first activities, initiated informally and on a voluntary basis in 2017, aimed to meet the urgent needs of SCCY, in particular by collaborating with local actors. In 2018, the organization reached an important milestone by formally structuring itself as a community association, which enabled it to play a central role in managing one of the few shelters for SCCY during the Covid-19 crisis.
Since then, Hashtag Gulu Initiative has developed a deep understanding of the challenges and aspirations of SCCY, thereby strengthening its ability to respond effectively to their needs. Through targeted actions, the organization has succeeded in gaining the trust of these vulnerable young people, an essential step for their sustainable reintegration into society. At the same time, the association has been actively involved in awareness-raising and advocacy campaigns to reduce the stigma faced by SCCY, using digital tools, radio broadcasts, and community dialogues. Today, Hashtag Gulu Initiative is recognized as a reliable and dynamic partner in the fight for the dignity and empowerment of SCCY.
Job purpose
The main objective of the position is to strengthen Hashtag Gulu's team capacity in social work and in supporting young people in reintegration, often without qualifications or with only basic knowledge of agroecology, in order to improve the care provided to SCCY and offer them holistic support as part of an empowerment process through training in sustainable agriculture. At the same time, the role will provide agroecology support to further develop the partner's agricultural farm.
Activities and tasks:
- Provide informed advice on procedures and appropriate approaches for supervising and offering psychosocial support to SCCY, and support their implementation in line with Hashtag Gulu's objectives.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions, deliver short trainings, and carry out individual follow-ups with SCCY.
- Advise on and support agroecological activities and the development of Hashtag Gulu's farm.

- Soutenir les activités proposées avec les SCCY par le partage des connaissances, l'échange d'informations et le renforcement des capacités du personnel de Hashtag Gulu, notamment en dispensant des formations en travail social et en élaborant du matériel de formation ;
- Contribuer à l'amélioration de la prise en charge des bénéficiaires dans un environnement sûr et stimulant et participer au suivi de la réintégration des SCCY ;
