Job description

Background:

 

The Office in Europe (ORP/EUR) is looking for a dynamic and resourceful young talent to join the team to support strengthening and enhancing the IDB Group's strategic partnerships and resource mobilization activities in Europe.

 

Established in 1959, the Inter-American Development Bank ("IDB" or "Bank") is the main source of financing for economic, social, and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). It provides loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice and technical assistance to the public and private sectors of its borrowing countries. Working with us you will be surrounded by a diverse group of people who have years of experience in all types of development fields, including transportation, health, gender and diversity, communications and much more.

 

Emerging economies must fill a US$2.5 trillion financing gap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Because the international public sector cannot fill this gap alone, partnerships are essential to financing the 2030 Agenda. Office of Outreach and Partnerships (ORP) is dedicated to supporting the IDB Group's efforts in achieving this goal by significantly expanding its capacity to serve LAC through added financing, knowledge, and innovation. Through our offices in Asia, Europe, and North America, we work with governments, companies, academia, foundations, and others to forge and maintain partnerships that can fill this gap and advance the SDGs ensuring full alignment with the strategic priorities outlined in the IDBG Institutional Strategy and the Vision 2025.  

 

The Office consists of the Resource Mobilization Division (REM); the Grants and Co-financing Management Unit (GCM); both located in Washington D.C., and the Representations in Asia (ASI) in Tokyo; and the Office in Europe (EUR) in Madrid. We work closely with the IDB Group's  operational units, IDB Lab and IDB Invest to mobilizes resources, formalizes, and enhances collaborations, and creates and shares knowledge about partnerships responding to the evolving landscape of resource mobilization towards the SDGs.

 

 

The team's mission:

 

EUR, in coordination with REM and other relevant units, focuses on strengthening strategic alliances between the IDB Group and all 16 IDB European member countries, Israel, the European Union institutions, as well as other key partners including international institutions, academic and universities, NGOs as well as a range of other European-based partners in the private and public sectors.

 

 

What you'll do:

 

The selected candidate will perform the following 4 key activities to support ORP/EUR's efforts in the development and fostering of new and existing partnerships with public and private development players in Europe to expand mobilization opportunities in alignment with the IDB 2025 vision with the emphasis on the areas related to climate change, digital transformation, regional integration, and gender equality.

 

  • Participate in a series of activities to identify new partners, particularly in the private sector; i) conducting research and analysis including marketing intelligence; integrity due diligence and risk analysis; ii) the preparation of presentation materials; and iii) formalization of legal process for institutional agreements or mobilization of financial/non-financial resources.
  • Provide support in the preparation of the IDB Group´s senior management missions in Europe, including the identification of potential partners, schedule coordination, partner intelligence, preparation of agenda, briefing/talking points, and presentation materials as well as the follow up actions and lead contacts.
  • Contribute to the organization and execution of events and outreach activities including high-level meetings, workshops, seminars and donor consultation meetings. Assist the design, planning, legal and administrative processes, preparation of presentations and coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Contribute to EUR's knowledge sharing, innovation and communication activities in multiple media available (email, in-print, online or social media) to disseminate best practices and lessons-learned in the partnerships, key development tools, among others as well as maintain EUR website and daily news reporting in line with ORP communication strategy.

 

 

What you'll need:

 

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
  • Education: A minimum bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in any one of the following areas: Business Administration, Economics, Law, International Development, International Relations, or equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum two years of relevant professional experience. Familiarity or experience in the Private Sector-Public Sector Partnerships is a plus but not necessary. 
  • Languages:  Proficiency in Spanish and English (oral and written).  Proficiency of German is highly desirable but not required.. Proficiency of other European languages is a plus.
