Job description
Financial sustainability is a core priority of Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. In Africa, National Societies are generally reliant on external international funding, as well as income generation from assets and businesses. Domestic private source fundraising has not yet been systematically approached on a wide scale. A mapping exercise was undertaken in 2021 to review potential in some countries in Africa, and now more in-depth investigation is needed to understand market potential for fundraising. The Netherlands Red Cross has secured funding to conduct in-depth market studies in approximately 8 countries in Africa and an initiative has been developed together with Swiss Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Africa.
The Swiss Red Cross Resource mobilization unit is looking to recruit a Fundraising Research Coordinator - Africa 80 %
Your duties
- Act as coordinator and focal point for the Fundraising Research programme in Africa
- Support African National Societies to engage with the project, in liaison with the relevant IFRC heads of delegation
- Review of existing/historic fundraising market research in the target countries
- Identification and recruitment of local consultants to conduct fundraising market studies in approx. 8 countries in Africa,
- Support and supervision of consultants to ensure deliverables are achieved on time and to budget
- Ensure relevant processes and procedures are duly followed in the contracting of consultants
- Work with a pre-identified experienced agency on a standard frame for the market studies, and ensure this template is followed in each of the countries to ensure consistency (if resources allow)
- Provide technical guidance and support to the consultants to ensure the studies meet quality standards
- Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure that existing data and information from previous studies and initiatives is utilised in the market study process to avoid duplication
- Ensure proper liaison and engagement with IFRC delegations and NSD focal points
- Monitor progress against agreed objectives, and highlight any possible delays or challenges
- Provide regular updates and information to stakeholders in IFRC, Netherlands Red Cross and Swiss Red Cross on project progress, milestones and challenges
- Regular travel and visits to the countries where research is being conducted.
Your profile
- You have a college or university degree in marketing/communication, information technology, business administration or a comparable education and further training in fundraising and project management
- Experience of procurement and management of suppliers
- Strong knowledge of private source fundraising
- Project management experience and capacity building skills
- Experience of proposal and report writing
- Excellent communication skills and cultural sensitivity
- First-hand knowledge of African context(s) is an asset
- Knowledge of or experience in the Red Cross Red Crescent is an asset
- Fluent spoken and written English and French, other languages especially Arabic, Portuguese and/or Spanish an asset
