To grow its work on Gender & Peacebuilding, swisspeace is looking for a

 

Senior Program Officer Gender & Peacebuilding (80 - 100%)

 

Starting date: 1 October 2022 (or by agreement)

swisspeace understands peace and conflict as gendered realities. We are involved in policy and practice on the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, feminist foreign policy, and gender in peacebuilding. We provide our expertise to different state and non-state actors, and in collaboration with members of the Swiss Platform for Peacebuilding KOFF, we engage with state institutions, civil society, and academia to create space for dialogue, support peace policy and programming, and advance teaching, training, and research on the gendered dimensions of peace and conflict in Switzerland, and abroad.

 

Your tasks:

  • Shape and lead swisspeace' work on Women, Peace, and Security, feminist foreign policy, and gender in peacebuilding through policy, programs, and practice-oriented research  
  • Develop, acquire, and implement projects and mandates in the above-mentioned thematic fields, including the supervision and support of junior staff
  • Provide senior gender expertise and advice to state actors, civil society partners, international organizations, and internally, to the thematic programs at swisspeace
  • Contribute to training courses run by swisspeace and to the in-house expertise on gender, and connect to academic research and gender studies (i.e. University of Basel)
  • Expand our network on gender in peacebuilding within state actors, civil society, and academia

 

Your profile:

  • A passion for gender in peace policy and practice, and an aspiration to shape and lead swisspeace' work on Women, Peace, and Security, feminist foreign policy, and gender in peacebuilding
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a strong professional network in the above-mentioned areas; field experience and engagement with (local) civil society/NGO partners are strong assets
  • Good overview of (Swiss) policies regarding the promotion of peace and gender equality; experience in working for/with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs is an asset
  • Experience in facilitating multistakeholder engagement and joint learning, conducting practice-oriented research, and formulating evidence-based policy recommendations
  • Good knowledge of academic research on gender in peacebuilding, experience and interest in academic teaching and research is an asset   
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French; German and other languages are assets
  • Availability to travel, including to conflict and post-conflict countries

Our research combines scientific rigor with practical relevance, and we are keen to feed our findings into respective academic, policy, and practice discussions.  We are looking for a:    Senior Program Officer/ Senior Researcher – Resources & Conflict (80 – 100 %)    Starting date: 01 July 2024 (or by agreement)   swisspeace has recently consolidated two programs into a new Resources & Conflict (R&C) program that aims to contribute to a better understanding of and respond to the conflict risks and peacebuilding opportunities associated with climate change and climate policies, with a focus on formal and informal governance of natural resources in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. We are looking for an experienced Senior Program Officer and/or Senior Researcher interested in strengthening and expanding this new program. This role offers the opportunity to shape swisspeace's work in this area going forward and to respond to the needs of different types of partners who are working towards ensuring climate-related projects are developed and implemented in a socially responsible and conflict-sensitive manner. Ideally, we are looking for a self-starter who is keen to contribute to strategic and conceptual thinking and hands-on implementation. Profile The (Senior) Programme Manager will have a cross-divisional programme management remit covering the programme management of: a)    designated asset recovery programmes (50%); b)    the Basel Institute's Ukraine programme (30–35%); and c)     designated research and public governance programmes (15–20%).   The post holder will report directly to the Heads or designated senior staff of the respective teams.
