Job description

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Its mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA professionals work towards universal access to sexual and reproductive health, protecting reproductive rights, reducing maternal mortality, empowering and improving the lives of underserved populations.

 

Mozambique is part of the United Nations "Delivering as One" initiative, as such, UNFPA Country Programme (2022-2026) for Mozambique, is aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCP) 2022-2025. UNFPA is contributing based on its experience, in addressing issues of sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, youth and population demographics.

 

Safeguard Young People (SYP) is the flagship youth programme of the UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO). The programme is designed to address the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) needs of adolescents and young people using a holistic approach. The SYP programme has been implemented by UNFPA and its regional and national partners in eight Southern African countries from November 2013. In 2022, the SYP programme was expanded to an additional four countries including Mozambique.

 

The aim of the programme is to empower adolescents and young people aged 10 to 24 years to lead healthy lives and to protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions, early marriages, gender-based violence and harmful cultural practices. At the same time, SYP promotes inclusiveness, gender-equitable norms and protective behaviours.

 

Your tasks and responsibilities as Programme Associate, Youth and Gender:

  • Support general implementation, management, monitoring and reporting of the UNFPA youth programmes and specifically the SYP Programme;
  • Provide technical, coordination, innovation and resource mobilization support to the broader UNFPA Youth portfolio.

 

Part of the Talent programme 'Swiss Youth at the United Nations', this position is sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). This ensures that travel, relocation, life and health insurance costs are covered by the programme and a monthly living allowance is paid.

  • Swiss nationality;
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (by end of October 2022);

  • Excellent command of English and 2 official Swiss languages (one active = C1/C2, one passive = A2/B1);
  • Interest in joining the international cooperation sector.

 

For this position:

  • Master's degree in Social Sciences or related fields with specialized knowledge in the field of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Gender;
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (ideally one year) in development or humanitarian work on SRHR and/or Gender;
  • Working knowledge in English.
