United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organisation working to save lives, protect rights and build a better future for refugees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. They work to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find refuge from violence, persecution, war or disaster at home. UNHCR also works to end statelessness for millions of people worldwide without a nationality.
The International UN Youth Volunteer in RSD is a member of the Refugee Status Determina-tion (RSD) team. Under the direct supervision of the RSD Officer (RSD Supervisor), s/he is responsible to learn how to conduct RSD interviews to determine eligibility for refugee status, undertaking country of origin (COI) and other research related to the claim, as required, and learn how to draft RSD assessments, including for complex cases. The incumbent will learn how to provide counselling to asylum-seekers and refugees on UNHCR's RSD procedures and on their status, rights and obligations in the country of asylum. The incumbent assists in compiling and analysing information related to the RSD activities of the operation

Part of the Talent programme 'Swiss Youth at the United Nations', this position is sponsored by the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD). This ensures that travel, relocation, life and health insurance costs are covered by the programme and a monthly living allowance is paid.
