The Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice for the Latin America Region (SPJ LCR) is at the front of the World Bank response, leveraging existing social protection systems in countries to help families and businesses restore income, preserve livelihoods, and compensate for price hikes as well as supporting overall economic resilience.


Your tasks and responsibilities as Social Protection and Labour Technical Assistant:

  • Contribute to the design and supervision of social assistance lending operations;
  • Support the design of analytical work: quantitative and qualitative analysis and evaluations, including impact evaluations;
  • Contribute to the provision of technical assistance and knowledge products to strengthen social protection delivery systems and their adaptability to respond to emergencies;
  • Support the project team leader in managing client relations and policy dialogue;
  • Contribute to research and analysis.

Part of the UN Youth Volunteers Programme, this position is sponsored by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). To ensure one can fully immerse in these assignments, all travel, relocation, life and health insurance costs are covered.

Skills required

For the programme: 

  • Swiss nationality; 
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (by end of March 2021); 
  • Ideally 12 months of relevant professional experience (min. 3 months - max. 24 months); 
  • Max. 28 years old at the start of the assignment in July 2021; 
  • Excellent command of English and 2 official Swiss languages (one active = C1/C2, one passive = A2/B1);  
  • Interest in joining the international cooperation sector.  

For this position:  

  • Master's Degree in Economic Sciences;
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (ideally one year) in social protection and labor, social inclusion, and development projects.
  • Fluent in English and working knowledge of Spanish.
