The Directorate of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture in Kavango West is a regional office of the Ministry of Education in Namibia. Its mission is to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all learners in the region. With approx. 47,500 learners and 2,000 teachers in 178 schools, the Directorate plays a crucial role in shaping education in a region with one of the lowest average household incomes in Namibia. Youth unemployment remains one of the greatest challenges globally, driven by rapid population growth and increasing inequality, particularly in Africa. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is widely recognized as a key solution to bridging the skills gap, equipping young people with the competencies needed to enter the labour market and achieve economic independence.  Recognizing the crucial link between education and employment, St. Martin CSA has partnered with the County Government of Laikipia to empower youth through inclusive and equitable TVET. This collaboration aims to help young people become self-reliant and socially responsible individuals who appreciate and respect diverse cultures. St. Martin supports Laikipia County Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) by strengthening their capacity to produce innovative graduates with the skills and expertise required for successful integration into the labour market. Your activities / tasks As a Comundo co-worker, you will play a key role in enhancing the quality and relevance of vocational training in Laikipia County by adapting the Dual-VET model to local contexts and strengthening the capacity of Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) in delivering Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and transversal skills development. Specifically, you will support St. Martin and the Laikipia County Government in contextualizing the Dual-VET model within Laikipia County VTCs and beyond. This includes assisting in the establishment of industry liaison and career guidance offices in each target VTC, as well as strengthening Public-Private Partnerships with industry stakeholders. Additionally, you will contribute to building the capacity of VTC trainers in implementing CBET methodologies and integrating transversal skills development across Laikipia County and beyond. Our partner organisation, Salesian of Don Bosco, runs the Don Bosco Technical College located in the mining town of Chingola, in the Copperbelt province of Zambia. With the introduction of skills bursary awards by the government under the Constituency Development Fund, the institution has seen a surge in the number of youths eager to be trained in the various skills courses offered. These young adults are the primary target group for training in Auto Electrical skills, a course in high demand in the region. There are very few service providers in this field. As a vocational training institution, it is crucial for us to have expertise in this area. Your activities/tasks As a Comundo co-worker, you will support the establishment of a training unit for Auto Electrical skills development. You will advise the institution, collaborate with the training staff on course profiling, develop training documentation manuals, and ensure knowledge transfer by training the trainers of Automotive Mechanics to be proficient in the field. The Kilifi County Government is committed to advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to equip learners with market-relevant skills and enhance their global competitiveness. With the devolution of TVET, counties now manage and finance most Vocational Training Centres (VTCs). Kilifi County with a population of 1.5 million and covering 12,000 km², operates 42 VTCs - many in need of significant upgrading and modernization.A flagship institutions, Muyeye Vocational Training College in Malindi (www.muyeyevtc.ac.ke), was established in 2010 and is the largest county-run VTC, currently serving over 800 students. The college plays a transformative role in equipping youth with demand-driven skills for employment and in breaking the cycle of poverty. In 2024, Muyeye was designated as a Centre for Vocational Expertise in plumbing, a major step in advancing specialized technical training in the region. Your role and responsibilitiesAs a Comundo Technical Advisor, you will play a key role in advancing Comundo's country program in Kenya by supporting TVET development in Kilifi County, with a strong focus on Muyeye College.
