DIRECTOR, INTERNATIONAL PHYSICIANS FOR THE PREVENTION OF NUCLEAR WAR – GENEVA LIAISON OFFICE
IPPNW-GLO is a Geneva-based non-profit association founded in February 2023 to advance the mission of IPPNW, a global non-partisan federation of national medical organizations dedicated to research, education, and advocacy relevant to the prevention of nuclear war and the promotion of peace. IPPNW is a registered US charity with headquarters in Boston. Founded by US and Soviet physicians in 1980, IPPNW was winner of the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize. It is the founding member organization of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), winner of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize, and continues to serve on the ICAN Steering Group. IPPNW has ECOSOC status at the United Nations, is in Official Relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) and works closely with international health and civil society groups, many of whom are located or have a presence in Geneva. About the position The IPPNW-GLO Director is responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of staff, programs, and mission execution for IPPNW-GLO. Key aspects of the role include managing stakeholder and donor relations and working with international organizations, governments, and the media. As IPPNW-GLO Director, you will collaborate closely with the Executive Director of IPPNW and the office staff in Boston, and with IPPNW affiliates within our federation. The Board and General Assembly of IPPNW-GLO provide broad oversight and support to the GLO Director. This is a full-time position in Geneva. Job Objectives and Responsibilities Your main deliverables will focus on: 1. Resource Mobilization and Development: Develop and implement a fundraising strategy that ensures the financial sustainability of the organization, while collaborating with and assisting in the development of the overall IPPNW federation. 2. Representation and Public Relations: Ensure IPPNW-GLO and the IPPNW federation is well represented to achieve its mission and programmatic goals. 3. Resource Management: Lead the organization's financial affairs, ensure efficient fiscal management, and assist the Board in meeting its legal and fiduciary responsibilities. 4. Leadership and strategic planning: In conjunction with IPPNW, develop and execute IPPNW-GLO strategies and support educational and advocacy activities related to the catastrophic humanitarian impacts of nuclear weapons, the urgent moral and medical imperative of abolishing nuclear weapons, and other threat multipliers such as militarism, war, climate change, and artificial intelligence. 5. Human Resources: Recruit, structure, inspire and lead an effective, diverse Geneva-based staff team, with a common vision and sense of purpose, clear goals and division of responsibility, transparency, accountability, and effective internal coordination and communication. 6. Governance: Inform and consult with IPPNW staff and leadership and the IPPNW-GLO Board and General Assembly to support governance. Salary: We offer a competitive salary and benefits package based on location. The salary for this full-time position is CHF 80-90'000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Qualifications ● University degree or equivalent in experience related to non-profit management, public relations, fundraising, advocacy, nuclear disarmament, international relations, political science, or related field; ● Excellent management skills, with five (5) years managing a team preferred; ● Excellent fundraising record and skills that are diversefoundations, individuals, and governments; ● A minimum of five (5) years of experience in influencing policy (advocacy), ideally at the international level, within a United Nations context and/or in partnership with projects or actors; ● Detailed knowledge of global issues related to nuclear weapons and arms control and disarmament is strongly preferred; Candidates with experience in the field will be considered first; ● Sharp strategic and policy sense, and a good capacity for analysis and synthesis; ● Ability to work in a multicultural environment successfully and to demonstrate gender-responsive and non-discriminatory behavior and attitudes; ● Strong content and foundation proposal writing skills are essential; ● Good interpersonal, networking, and representation skills; ● A strong commitment to the team and collaborative work; ● An impeccable record for integrity and professional ethical standards; ● Swiss/EU national or in possession of a valid Swiss work permit strongly preferred; and, ● Fluent in English. Intern (100%) Dealing with the Past
swisspeace is a practice and research institute dedicated to advancing effective peacebuilding. Partnerships with local and international actors are at the core of our work. Together, we combine competence and creativity to reduce violence and promote peace in contexts affected by conflicts. In collaboration with the University of Basel swisspeace offers a number of postgraduate programs and courses for peacebuilding professionals from around the world.

To support the Dealing with the Past Program we are looking for an:

Intern (100%) Dealing with the Past

Starting date: 1 February 2026 or by agreement

Duration: 6 months

Gross salary per month: CHF 1,500

The swisspeace Dealing with the Past (DwP) Program supports governmental and non-governmental actors in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of DwP activities. The program provides a wide range of training opportunities and contributes to the research-policy nexus through its research projects, conferences, publications and teaching. The team works in a self-organized manner in different project teams.

Your tasks:

- Administrative and logistic support to prepare and implement the Dealing with the Past Dialogues that the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs organizes in cooperation with swisspeace, including through on-site presence at the course for 10 days during 11 and 20 May 2026,
- Administrative and logistic support of other courses, conferences, workshops and roundtables,
- Potentially support the design and implementation of projects and mandates, e.g., by conducting desk and literature reviews, drafting sections of proposals and reports.
Your profile:

- BA (higher completed degrees will not be accepted) in international relations, social sciences, or similar disciplines,
- Proficiency in English and German (writing, speaking, and listening); Spanish language skills are an asset,
- Cultural sensitivity,
- Strong organizational skills, reliable and paying attention to details,
- Strong communication and writing skills,
- Self-organized and collaborative approach to work,
- Ability to work under pressure and to prioritize in view of competing deadlines,
- Excellent IT skills (MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, social media, online platforms),
- Valid driver's license (category B).

Peace and Security Internship
The Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN in NY is currently offering a full-time internship for a duration of 6 months with the possibility to extend for another 6 months (total of 12 months), starting on 1 February 2026. The remuneration for this position is USD 3,500 per month (gross salary).

 

As an intern, you will gather firsthand working experience at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations. You will work closely with our diplomatic staff and gain invaluable insights into the workings and dynamics of the organization and member states, while working at one of the largest Swiss representations abroad. You will be in regular exchange with UN officials and foreign diplomats, academia and civil society organizations, and provide support to the Mission Staff on specific thematic files.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is flexible, resilient, can work under pressure, and thinks in an interconnected and strategic way.

 

The candidate's tasks will include:

- Collecting information, preparing political analyses and drafting meeting reports in areas linked to peace and security
- Representing the Permanent Mission of Switzerland at formal and informal meetings of the UN, other Missions and NGOs
- Contributing to the drafting of formal Swiss statements or communication elements (including for social media)
- Supporting the organization of events and meetings by the Permanent Mission of Switzerland
- Performing administrative support tasks as required

Requirements:

In order to qualify for an internship, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

- Be of Swiss nationality or foreign nationals with existing residency and work permit in Switzerland for the entire period of employment
- Possess excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
- Speak and write French, German or Italian fluently, with passive (intermediate) knowledge of at least one other official language
