United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organisation working to save lives, protect rights and build a better future for refugees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. They work to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find refuge from violence, persecution, war or disaster at home. UNHCR also works to end statelessness for millions of people worldwide without a nationality.
The Communication with Communities (CwC) unit within UNHCR Lebanon works to ensure timely, accurate, and accessible two-way communication with refugees and displaced communities, in line with Accountability to Affected People (AAP) principles. Through various media channels (e.g., HELP website, Call Center, WhatsApp, SMS, printed materials), the unit provides information, gathers community feedback, and adapts programming accordingly. Amid ongoing crises in Lebanon and Syria, the CwC unit plays a vital role in keeping refugees informed about available services and support.
As Associate Protection Officer you support the Protection Unit by providing the following:
- Develop and coordinate communication materials on UNHCR services, ensuring inclusion of protection and Age, Gender and Diversity principles
- Draft and disseminate timely messaging on key topics, including sensitive issues like fraud prevention and voluntary return
- Improve data systems and tools to strengthen analysis of refugee feedback
- Promote innovative, accessible communication methods, focusing on inclusion and removing information barriers
- Work with partners to address communication challenges across diverse age, gender, and identity groups, supporting broader protection strategies
- Etc.
Part of the Swiss JPO Programme, this position is sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC of the FDFA.
