The Swiss Red Cross (SRC) is the largest humanitarian organization in Switzerland. We provide a broad range of services for the benefit of particularly vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Switzerland and in about 30 countries around the world.

The SRC is supporting the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) in its long-term humanitarian programming and crisis response efforts. Key thematic areas include Community Health, Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation, as well as institutional development. To further strengthen this long‑standing partnership and ensure the effective implementation of the SRC Country Strategy Nepal, the SRC is looking for an experienced Country Representative to lead its country office in Kathmandu starting on 1 January 2027.

What your job will be:

  • Represent SRC at country level; maintain strong relations with the NRCS
  • Ensure coordination with other Red Cross and Red Crescent partners, Swiss actors and other stakeholders
  • Support the implementation of the NRCS strategy through programmes and projects in line with the core competencies as defined in the SRC international engagement strategy
  • Provide context analysis and strategic insights; ensure adaptability to changing humanitarian and development needs
  • Offer technical guidance to NRCS and SRC‑supported programmes; ensure quality, accountability according to international standards
  • Oversee budget planning, forecasting and expenditure tracking; support financial sustainability efforts with NRCS
  • Explore opportunities for partnerships, in-country funding, and programme development
  • Facilitate timely and high-quality narrative and financial reporting to SRC headquarters and partners
  • Participate in Movement coordination mechanisms and contribute to policy dialogue and advocacy
  • Coordinate and exchange with the SRC HQ and contribute field-based insights to broader discussions and strategic planning

Skills required

  • A university degree or equivalent education and at least 8 years of professional experience in international cooperation within humanitarian and development contexts
  • Proven expertise in strategic partnership management and overseeing a programme, ideally within the RC/RC Movement
  • Experience in leading and managing a team in a complex environment
  • Demonstrated skills of project cycle management, proposal development, budgeting, financial management and adherence to donor compliance requirements
  • Technical skills in National Society Development and capacity-building
  • Experience in security management and risk mitigation in a fragile environment
  • Diplomatic and negotiation skills, cultural sensitivity, team spirit, leadership qualities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and foster effective collaboration
  • High level of autonomy, resilience, and adaptability in challenging environments
  • Excellent English skills; Nepali is an asset
