The SDC's Humanitarian Aid is an expression of Switzerland's solidarity with people in need. The SDC's Humanitarian Aid pursues the following thematic priorities:

The Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit (SHA) is an integral part of the SDC's Humanitarian Aid. The SHA is a corps of around 600 specialists who are on call in times of need. SHA specialists are divided into ten expert groups according to their know-how and skills. This enables the unit to provide targeted and effective support in the priority areas of the SDC's Humanitarian Aid.
This makes you unique
- You are committed to protecting and upholding the lives and dignity of people affected by disasters in your capacity as a representative of Switzerland.
- You must be a Swiss citizen or hold a permanent residence permit (C permit).
- You hold a degree, certification, or specialized training of equal value.
- You demonstrate at least five years of professional experience, ideally including two years in international development cooperation.*
- You are reliable, proactive, flexible, and able to work independently and efficiently.
- You combine a natural flair for dealing with people with a high degree of intercultural sensitivity.
- You must have a very good knowledge of two official Swiss languages and, if possible, a basic understanding of a third one. Fluency in English is essential.
- You are resilient and physically fit, and available for several overseas postings of at least six months' duration.
- You hold a category B driving licence.
*For particularly sought-after profiles, the SDC's Humanitarian Aid Division also offers accompanied initial assignments abroad.

Purpose of the assignment:

Als Praktikant:in bist du Teil des achtköpfigen «Digital Team». Das Team ist für sämtliche digitalen Aktivitäten von Ärzte ohne Grenzen Schweiz zuständig und gehört zur Abteilung Kommunikation und Fundraising.
Gemeinsam mit deinem deutschsprachigen Teamkollegen in Zürich bespielst du alle Social-Media-Kanäle für die Deutschschweiz, pflegst den Austausch mit unseren Follower:innen beim Community Management, bist in regelmässigem Austausch mit unseren Kolleg:innen in Deutschland und Österreich und checkst andere digitale Produkte (z.B. Webseite oder Newsletter). Immer wieder hast du die Gelegenheit, am Hauptsitz in Genf mit deinen sechs französischsprachigen Teamkolleg:innen zusammenzuarbeiten.

In this role, you design, implement and maintain advanced digital archiving systems, including machine learning and automated document processing tools, in order to identify, classify, describe and preserve historical and legal documents from massive volumes of heterogeneous digital data ('digital bulk').
You apply professional expertise to address diverse and sometimes challenging issues within your area of specialization. You contribute to improving systems and tools, strengthen processes, and provide informed guidance to colleagues. Your work supports the organization in achieving consistent quality and efficiency within your domain.
- Apply specialized knowledge to analyze and resolve a range of issues within established frameworks.
- Design tools, configure systems, or produce advanced analysis to inform decisions.
- Support Officers and team members through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for process and system improvements, infrastructure and security teams, to plan, design, coordinate the execution of testing and report of quality level.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Implements the records management policy and maintains internal procedures for records management and archiving, particularly digital records
- Designs and leads the development of machine learning models, and utilises OCR/HTR, NLP, and supervised and unsupervised classification technologies
- Ensures the integrity, traceability and authenticity of digital documents to guarantee business continuity and operational memory
- Structures document workflows by analysing business processes to prevent legal, operational and reputational risks
- Implements digital preservation strategies (long-term formats, migration, integrity) in accordance with archival and legal standards (ISO 15489, OAIS)
- Documents the models, methodological choices and limitations of automated systems
- Ensures the collection, processing, description, preservation, disclosure and secure disposal of documents
- Ensures the continuity of the ADOC unit's activities in the absence of colleagues (documentalist, archivist-records manager)
Your profile
Education
- A tertiary degree or equivalent in Information Science or History
- Strong coding skills (Python, R, JavaScript, etc.)
- A dual background in archiving and IT is highly desirable
Experience
- Experience in archiving, digital archiving and documentation

Languages

In this role, you manage a function or multi-team area by overseeing people, resources, and operational priorities. - Develop a program support model with dedicated locally appointed safeguarding human resources that ensures projects benefit from technical safeguarding expertise at both project and coordination levels.

- Work in synergies and in a functional mode with the OCG head of safeguarding to ensure coherence and alignment with OCG positioning technical safeguarding standards, and organizational priorities
- In collaboration with flying SFG staff and Country teams to produce detailed country-level safeguarding situational and risk analyses to inform strategic decision-making, propose prioritization of safeguarding actions according to organizational safeguarding objectives and operational context, and provide operational oversight of the implementation and effectiveness of safeguarding measures.
- Represent the Operations Directorate in internal and external meetings requiring operational and technical safeguarding input, analysis, or coordination related to the OCG Safeguarding Plan at programme level. Support any internal communication requesting the accountability of ops department in regards to safeguarding.

Education
- Master Degree or equivalent in a field relevant to this profile (e.g. law, social or organizational sciences, psychology, social work etc.) an asset
Experience
- 5 to 10 years of experience in humanitarian projects management in MSF.
- Similar validated experience in technical expertise in the related field, preferably in non-governmental, charity or international organisations.
Languages
