D'ailleurs Médecins Sans Frontières a reçu le prix Nobel de la Paix en 1999. Zones de conflits armés, épidémies, pandémies, catastrophes naturelles ou accès limité aux soins de santé, voici nos terrains d'intervention. Toutes ces situations nécessitent des ressources médicales et logistiques adaptées dont les autorités sanitaires et les ministères de la Santé ne disposent pas, ou pas en nombre suffisant, c'est pourquoi une assistance médicale internationale est essentielle aux populations.

Context & mission

Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to people in need, people affected by natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and without regard to race, religion, creed or political affiliation (MSF Charter).

The Cell Intern provides operational and administrative support to the Cell Team with an additional objective of working on at least one Medico-Operational dossier during the period of employment. The Cell Intern function can be part of an academic course or a federal program on professional integration. For this reason, placements as Cell Intern require a 3-party convention with the academic institute concerned.

Tasks and responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Cell Intern are split as follow: 40% of time dedicated to Operational Support, 40% of time dedicated to HR and Administrative Support and 20% dedicated to Medico-Operational Dossiers:

  1. Operational Support
  • Supports the cell in the organization of meetings (i.e. the weekly cell meeting (Mini Desk), Plan of Action discussions with field teams) including the preparation of agendas, taking minutes and the archiving of meeting documentation.
  • Supports the cell in the management of information such as cell archiving, is the focal point for the online platforms such as Kompas and Share Point and manages the key tools for the organization of the cell (i.e. presence, field visit preparation).
  • Supports the preparation of key Operational documents and Presentations for either internal or external use.
  • Provides support to the RLO (Logistic Referent) of the cell: follow up of material to be sent to missions, ordering of maps via the GIS center.
  • Provides support to the FINOP (Finance Referent) to prepare Power of Attorney for mission teams, follow up of contracts and partnership agreements, and the management of information related to audits.
  • Provides adhoc support to the Directorate of Operations such as management of meetings, minute taking and the coordination of operational and planning documents (portfolio reviews, emergency updates).
  • Monitors the news update and different reports on the context of the countries followed by the cell.
  • By delegation from the RP can be asked to provide operational updates to the HQ (Point Info).

2. HR and Administrative Support

  • Ensures the updating of the international staff tracking table (HR Update) (mission dates, job openings, obtaining documents)
  • Follows up with international staff on documents required for their departure (informed consents (BIC), proof of life)
  • Organizes briefings/debriefings of international staff with the cell members
  • Consolidates, monitors and updates pre-departure briefing materials for international staff
  • Welcome international staff on departure, introduce them to current operations and ensure they have the necessary documents
  • Compiles a table of the cell's mission positions to be opened, on a weekly basis
  • Participates in monthly meetings to open positions and present the cell's operational news
  • Files the job descriptions of international staff as soon as a position is required by the unit's missions
  • Files documents for anticipated returns
  • Follows up on other specific HR procedures as needed
  • Develops HR statistics with the assistance of the RHOP

3. Medico Operational Dossiers

  • Each Cell Intern, during the period of employment (from 6 months to 9 months) is expected to work on a Medico Operational Dossier. The dossier selected should combine (a) the operational needs of the Cell / Missions (b) academic requirements such as the need to complete a thesis and (c) if possible a link to the future career of the Cell Intern.
  • The topic needs to be selected within the first month of employment and agreed with the RP, ensuring that there is a clear deliverable (written report, thesis, ...).

To contribute, as a medical advisor within the Tropical Medicine Unit, to maintaining a high level of technical expertise in the OCG Medical Department by providing specialised and complementary knowledge, and by actively engaging with operational counterparts to support the management of neglected, epidemic-prone, and climate sensitive diseases and health conditions.. Tasks & Responsibilities - Provide expert support to the Medical Department, Operations Departments, Missions and Project teams on topics related to tropical medicine and environmental health. - Collaborate with the other Tropical Medicine Advisors to ensure that core areas of work are adequately covered from a technical capacity perspective (e.g. common and/or serious outbreaks, neglected tropical diseases), and that emerging needs are anticipated and addressed (e.g. increasing range and incidence of vector-borne diseases). - Deepen OCG's understanding of the links between climate, environment and health – particularly the health impacts of anthropogenic climate change and the risks posed by climate-linked emergencies and climate-sensitive diseases in MSF projects. - Work with Cells, Missions and Project teams to implement concrete, evidence-based approaches towards operational adaptation to minimise the detrimental health impacts of climate change. - Consult and collaborate with intersectional counterparts and external experts to ensure a harmonised, evidence-based, best-practice approach to the prevention, diagnosis and management of tropical diseases and other climate-related health problems (e.g. heat). - Undertake regular field visits to priority projects (as defined by need, level of complexity, strategic ambition etc) to provide direct support in the form of clinical oversight, peer-to-peer education, workplace-based training, evaluations etc, as necessary. - Contribute to operational research and other knowledge-building exercises on an appropriate, as-needed basis, prioritising those activities which address specific gaps relevant to OCG's medical operations and the care we provide to our patients. - Contribute actively to the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Intersectional MSF platform, and learn from shared intersectional knowledge, position OCG on specific NTD strategies, WHO, DNDi and other NTD partners, advocate and innovate (e.g. field implementation of new algorithms or guidance). - Provide expert inputs into OCG policies and strategies relevant to tropical medicine and climate, environment and health. - Represent OCG in relevant external forums on topics specific to tropical medicine and climate, environment and health. - Provide capacity building by providing support training and mentoring MSF medical staff and contribute to internal training initiatives and learning platforms. The Communion Office (CO) is the headquarters of the LWF. The Office of the General Secretary (OGS) in the CO is responsible for managing and nurturing relationships and ensuring the smooth running of the Communion Office as it fulfils the Strategy of the LWF. It also takes responsibility for the development of the LWF strategy and for overall planning, coordination, and support.     Purpose The OGS has a dual mandate:   Relationships Nurturing communion relationships with and among LWF member churches; Promoting Christian unity and ecumenical relations through dialogue and shared witness; Promoting strategic international partnerships.     Coordination and support Coordinating development  of the LWF strategy as well as development of annual workplans; coordinating governance processes; Ensuring robust financial, human resources, communication, and IT systems and work; upholding institutional integrity through compliance, overall policies and accountability mechanisms; maintaining the institutional memory and archives. Reporting directly to the General Secretary (GS), the Chief of Staff (CS) operates with delegated authority to support the GS in focusing on high-level strategic priorities, including long-term financial sustainability and strategic financial development, organizational culture and strategic communication, while ensuring the efficient day to day functioning of the OGS. Serving as a trusted advisor and integrator, the CS leads and coordinates the planning, development and implementation of central processes, platforms and services across core support functions (communication, finance, human resources, PMER, information technology, support to governing bodies, office management). Working closely with the Head of Finance, the CS is responsible for the overall presentation of LWF budget to governance and funding partners, and for the development of financial strategy, tools and systems that support organizational effectiveness and sustainability. The CS supports the General Secretary in working with governance. S/he maintains close relations with funding partners and key external stakeholders. As a team leader, the CS fosters collaboration, coherence, and professional growth, ensuring that program planning aligns with the LWF strategy and that central support functions deliver high quality services. The CS is a member of the LWF Communion Office Leadership Team (COLT).     Required Qualifications ·         University degree in management, public administration, finance, organizational leadership or equivalent qualification. ·         Expertise in strategic planning, finance and budgeting. ·         High proficiency in office productivity tools, digital collaboration platforms, and remote work tools. ·         Broad knowledge and understanding of the LWF, its governance structures, member churches, related agencies, and a commitment to the Lutheran faith tradition. ·         Fluency in English. There are 23 staff in the OGS (18 in Geneva), of whom 15 are in the Coordination and Support units reporting to the Chief of Staff. The global total budget of the LWF was more than EUR 130 million in 2026. The CO has multiple stakeholders and works with multiple currencies. Being at the heart of the organizational functioning, the incumbent is instrumental in liaising with the General Secretary and other members of the leadership team, governance and key organization-related stakeholders and donors. The CS is a voting member of the Communion Office Leadership Team (COLT), a non-voting member of the Endowment Fund Board. S-he is also the COLT representative in the LWF Finance Committee together with the Head of Finance who is a member of extended leadership team.   Internally, mainly interacts with the General Secretary, the Directors and COLT members, and OGS Coordination and Support staff.   Externally, mainly interacts with LWF governing bodies, member churches, donors and related agencies, auditors, banks, landlord of Octagon, legal advisers, State authorities and other LWF service providers.       Main duties   Strategic support to the General Secretary Ensure alignment between strategic direction and internal implementation by echoing and reinforcing the priorities set by the General Secretary across the organization; Ensure effective internal communication across departments and teams, supporting clarity, transparency, and shared direction; Support strategic foresight by helping to identify long-term trends and shifts, as well as organizational dynamics, that may impact the Communion Office or wider LWF context; Provide together with other members of the Communion Office Leadership Team strategic counsel to the General Secretary on institutional priorities, governance, and organizational dynamics.   Strategic and operational leadership Coordinate core central functions, finance, human resources, communication, IT, planning and monitoring, governance support, and office management (including archives) to ensure coherence, quality, and alignment with the LWF Strategy; Ensure that systems, policies, and services are responsive to the needs of the Communion Office, support excellence in delivery and ensure the integrity of LWF operations; Promote stewardship, subsidiarity, and appropriate delegation in operational management and resource use; Oversee institutional risk management frameworks and coordinate internal preparedness and response.   Governance Support the General Secretary in preparing and delivering governance processes, including Council, Executive Committee, Finance Committee, and the Endowment Fund.
