Purpose of Job
A member of the Bank's Treasury Accounting team who maintain the financial records for the Bank's Treasury department. In this role, the Associate correctly applies the relevant accounting rules and provides meaningful and appropriate financial reporting, with special focus on ensuring the accuracy of both Treasury front office reporting, and IFRS-compliant financial statement reporting for the Treasury portfolio.
Background
The accounting teams within Financial Control are responsible for the preparation of periodic and annual financial reports on behalf of the Bank and the Donor Funds which the Bank administrates, together with setting and maintaining the accounting policies of the Bank. They maintain the financial records for each and provide timely and accurate information on financial performance and financial position. This information enables management to evaluate historic performance and formulate strategy.
The role interacts with a wide cross section of departments within the Bank to coordinate the receipt and analysis of information required to fulfil internal and external financial reporting requirements. The person is also expected to respond to enquiries from internal and external auditors on areas of work for which they are responsible.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Prepares sections of the year-end financial statements with all required disclosures and notes accurately and to a tight deadline
- Prepare periodic internal financial management reporting, including daily front office reporting issued to Treasury to assist in management of the Bank's market risk
- Assesses the impact of the latest IFRS accounting standards on EBRD's financial statements to ensure compliance
- Ensures the accounting policies of the Bank are up-to-date and consistent with IFRS
- Undertakes investigations and inspections of data in accordance with established procedure to identify and quantify potential accounting postings required
- Maintains the accounting and reporting systems, files and other records required for the Bank to ensure accurate and timely information
- Reviews transactions booked in front office systems and posted to the accounting systems for accuracy and appropriateness
- Liaising with Operations and front office teams to resolve booking issues
- Identifies solutions to non-standard tasks/queries
- Provides advice to internal clients relating to relevant financial products or transactions
- Contributes to the development of procedures to ensure the accounting department best responds to the needs of the Bank
- Review and sign-off of team members' journals to ensure accuracy
- Supervises and trains new team members and year end temporary staff to create a team that can meet its objectives
- Produces work in compliance with the Bank's Internal Controls Framework
- Liaises with internal and external auditors and responds to queries
- Supports the team in the delivery of the Compass transformation project, including contribution to process design, system testing, data migration and implementation activities
- Other ad hoc tasks as allocated by line manager
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Educated to degree level
- ACA qualified or equivalent, preferably with additional experience or training in financial markets and treasury products
- Significant relevant accounting experience, preferably in a Financial Services setting with Treasury experience
- Fluent English language skills, both verbal and written
- Statutory financial accounts preparation and/or audit experience on financial accounts
- Strong numerical and financial skills with the ability to interpret financial information
- Strong data analysis skills and experience with Tableau/Power BI or other data visualisation tools
- Fully competent in own practise area
- Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
- Strong computer skills with emphasis on Excel
- Experience with SAP or equivalent accounting system preferable
