Context & mission

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Flying Implementer plays a critical role in operationalizing MSF OCG's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. This dynamic role requires a proactive and enthusiastic individual to partner with mission and project teams to embed DEI into operational strategies, team dynamics, and community engagement.

A key responsibility of the Flying Implementer is to drive the rollout of the Breaking Barriers Gender Campaign, a transformative initiative aimed at increasing women's representation and improving working conditions for all staff. This role focuses on building awareness, generating interest, and addressing structural and cultural barriers in missions and projects.

The Flying Implementer will coach DEI Focal Points, support leadership in identifying and addressing DEI gaps, and build networks within and beyond MSF to strengthen the organization's DEI ambitions.


Tasks and responsibilities

DEI Advocacy in countries

  • Guide missions and projects in implementing DEI principles, focusing on talent attraction, recruitment, career growth and retention, and creating equitable working conditions and culture in teams.

  • Champion the creation of inclusive spaces such as Women's Networks and Men as Allies Groups, fostering a culture of mutual support and allyship across MSF missions.

  • Ensure DEI activities are implemented effectively, with the aim of encouraging representation of diverse identities in leadership positions while tracking and reporting outcomes

Operational Support

  • Serve as the primary DEI partner for OCG countries, fostering collaboration between mission teams, projects, and HQ.

  • Actively involved in advising countries on DEI key actions to be included in the Plans of Action (PoA) process and encourage meaningful DEI related discussions at Field Associative Debates (FADs).

  • Support the identification and prioritization of DEI gaps at the country level, providing tailored, actionable solutions for leadership and DEI sponsors.

  • Advocate for DEI-related priorities in leadership discussions, operational planning, and staff forums

Training, coaching and capacity building

  • Deploy DEI workshops, awareness sessions, and tailored coaching programs for mission leadership, HR teams, and project staff, in collaboration with Learning & Development (L&D).

  • Equip DEI Focal Points with the skills and tools to navigate challenging conversations, implement DEI initiatives, and support team awareness on DEI related matters.

  • Ensure field teams are aware of DEI related topics in HR and Safeguarding policies and practices to inform the development of contextualized adaptations as needed.

  • Partner with HR Coordinators (HRCo) and Personal Development Managers (PDMs) to identify and map DEI learning needs, creating targeted interventions for capacity building.

Networking and Collaboration

  • Develop the DEI Focal Point database and frequently update and track progress of actions taking place in projects and missions in OCG countries.

  • Build and sustain robust DEI Focal Point networks across OCG countries, ensuring a consistent and collaborative approach to DEI initiatives.

  • Forge partnerships with other MSF operational centres (OCs) working on DEI, sharing best practices and lessons learned.

  • Establish connections with regional INGOs and organizations focused on gender equity and inclusion to strengthen MSF's DEI efforts.

  • Actively contribute to internal communities of practice focused on vulnerable identities within the countries, to foster collective ownership of DEI goals.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

  • Use HR and operational data to monitor the progress of DEI action plans and goals, identifying trends and areas for improvement.

  • Ensure regular and transparent reporting on DEI initiatives, including country milestones, challenges, and success stories, to key stakeholders.

Your profile

Education

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Organizational Development, International Relations, Social Sciences, or related fields.
  • Specialized training in DEI or Gender Studies is an advantage.

Experience

  • MSF experience highly desirable.

  • Experience working across complex, multicultural environments, including engaging with community stakeholders.

  • At least 4-5 years of experience in DEI, or organizational development, ideally in a humanitarian or international organization, highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated success in implementing DEI programs, including activities such as workshop facilitation, training, coaching, and developing guidelines.

  • Proven ability to analyse data, spot trends, and translate findings into actionable strategies.

Languages

  • Proficiency in English and French is required, with good verbal and written communication skills in both languages.

  • Additional language skills in Spanish, and Arabic highly desirable

A Note on Travel

This role requires travel of up to 80% of working time. The flying implementer will move between MSF OCG mission countries on a regular basis, with limited time at a fixed base. Candidates must be comfortable with this level of mobility and hold the appropriate legal eligibility to travel across OCG mission regions.


Terms of employment

  • Flying fixed-term contract, 12 months
  • Full-time, 100% (40h/week)
  • Working place : Field-based position with visits to the headquarters in Geneva
  • Practical working conditions in the field are in accordance with the MSF OCG volunteer manual.

  • Gross monthly salary: CHF 5'500.- based on 100%

All selected candidates will undergo reference checks.  Context & mission Provide strategic leadership to the Public Fundraising Unit to drive donor engagement, sustainable fundraising growth, and effective team and resource management in alignment with organisational objectives. The General Public Fundraising Unit is one of the 9 units within the Communication and Fundraising Department of Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland. The Head of the Unit develops, recommends, and implements the direct marketing, middle donor and donor care strategy for retention, acquisition, and reactivation activities as part of the unit's annual action plan and budget. Together with the team, s/he is responsible for the preparation, implementation, and analysis of donor retention, acquisition, reactivation, and conversion campaigns, as well as for the day-to-day management of donor relations and gift administration.  Tasks & Responsibilities   Strategic Leadership & Fundraising Oversight ·     Define and lead the definition and implementation of the overall General Public Fundraising strategy in alignment with the strategic objectives of Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland. ·       Oversee retention, acquisition, reactivation, and conversion actions for general public donors, middle donors, and legacy donors. ·       Identify strategic priorities and opportunities to support the growth and sustainability of fundraising revenue. ·       Lead the coordination and follow-up of departmental action plans ensuring the achievement of strategic and budgetary objectives. ·       Ensure alignment of the unit's donor acquisition, engagement, and retention activities with those developed by the digital and regular donor acquisition teams Oversee resource allocation and ensure optimal use of unit budgets and resources.   Team Leadership & People Management ·       Manage, coach and support the coordinators/managers of the Direct Marketing, Donor Care, and Middle Donors teams. ·       Oversee the overall coordination, performance, and engagement of a broader team composed of staff members and volunteers. ·       Define the strategic direction of the team, set objectives, and monitor team effectiveness and managerial performance. ·       Support managers in optimizing processes, working methods, and team organization. ·       Support the development of skills, autonomy, and expertise of managers and their teams. ·       Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across the department. ·       Ensure effective communication and information sharing across teams.   Fundraising Campaigns & Operational Oversight ·       Oversee retention, acquisition, reactivation, and conversion campaigns led by the fundraising teams. ·       Ensure overall oversight of projects and activities included in the unit action plan. ·       Ensure consistency and quality across fundraising activities for all donor segments. ·       Oversee external service providers and ensure the quality of partnerships and deliverables. ·       Validate operational priorities and support teams in the management of strategic projects. ·       Ensure operational efficiency across fundraising activities and promote continuous process improvement.   Performance Management, Reporting & Innovation. ·       Define Objectives and key results (OKRs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to donor acquisition, engagement, retention, service quality, and fundraising performance. ·       Oversee reporting frameworks, performance analysis, and monitoring systems for fundraising campaigns and activities. ·       Provide strategic recommendations based on data analysis, donor trends, and operational performance insights. ·       Identify opportunities for optimization, innovation, and continuous improvement across teams. ·       Ensure oversight of data quality and promote best practices in donor data management and analysis. ·       Monitor sector trends, innovations, and best practices related to fundraising and donor relations.   Cross-functional Collaboration & Representation ·       Ensure effective collaboration and alignment across the Direct Marketing, Donor Care, and Middle Donors teams and with other units of the department. ·       Foster information sharing, knowledge exchange, and best practices within the Communication & Fundraising Department and across other departments. ·       Represent the General Public Fundraising department in internal meetings, cross-functional projects, and institutional initiatives. ·       Maintain active relationships with external professional networks, including Swissfundraising. ·       Participate in international meetings and working groups related to fundraising and donor engagement activities when relevant. ·       Contribute to strengthening cross-department collaboration and the development of transversal initiatives.   Other Responsibilities ·       Participate in strategic meetings and projects within the Communication & Fundraising Department. ·       Provide regular reporting to Management on departmental performance, challenges, risks, and resource needs. ·       Identify and escalate key issues impacting departmental activities and propose appropriate solutions. ·       Contribute to organizational development and institutional projects related to fundraising and donor engagement. ·       Undertake any additional projects or responsibilities assigned by Management.     Your profile Education ·       University degree or higher education qualification in marketing, fundraising, project management, or a related field. Experience ·       At least 7 years of experience in fundraising and direct marketing within the humanitarian or non-profit sector, including direct mail, telemarketing and digital engagement activities. ·       At least 5 years of experience in team management and staff development within complex organisational environments. ·       Proven experience in managing cross-functional projects and external service providers. ·       Strong understanding of humanitarian issues and commitment to humanitarian principles. Languages ·       Full professional proficiency (written and spoken) in at least two of the following languages: French, German, and English. Proficiency in all three languages is a strong asset. ·       Knowledge of Italian is an asset. Skills/ Technical competencies ·       Solid understanding of donor database management and CRM environments. ·       Strong knowledge of direct marketing retention techniques and communication tools applied to fundraising within a non-profit organisation. ·       Proficiency in project management and reporting tools. ·       Strong numerical and analytical skills with advanced proficiency in MS office software, particularly Excel. Introduction Fondation Suisse de la Chaîne du Bonheur (Swiss Solidarity), based in Geneva, Switzerland, carries out fundraising campaigns for the victims of natural disasters and humanitarian crises in partnership with the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SSR/SRG) and supports humanitarian relief and reconstruction projects, mainly carried out by its Swiss NGO partners. Swiss Solidarity's current main contexts of intervention are Ukraine, the Middle East, Soudan and Myanmar.   Background and Objectives The foundation wishes to review and strengthen its arrangements to ensure the safety and security of its staff members when travelling abroad. About two to three visits to humanitarian contexts, for fact-finding, monitoring and communication purposes, are carried out each year. Swiss Solidarity staff are often hosted by partner NGOs.   Tasks SwS is seeking a consultant for the following tasks ·       Assess the security culture within the organisation The consultant is expected to assess the security culture of the organisation, considering its responsibility under duty of care, and to make recommendations. ·       Review the current safety and security framework for field visits The consultant is expected to review the existing arrangements and procedures, including the security event and incident management protocol, and to propose revised or new guidelines and protocols for field visits. ·       Design and test a crisis management procedure The consultant should propose a procedure and the assignment of roles and responsibilities for the management at headquarter level of security incidents affecting staff members travelling on field visits. Additionally, the consultant should organise and facilitate a training session in the form of a simulation exercise for the procedure.   Outputs 1.       A short report presenting the results of the review and assessment of the organisation's security culture and of its current safety and security framework for field visits, with recommendations for improvements. 2.     Security management guidelines for field visits (maximum 3 pages). 3.     Crisis management guidelines and checklists. 4.     Facilitation of a tailored practical training session on the crisis management framework with a simulation exercise for key personnel.   Requirements ·       Substantial experience in the role of security adviser for humanitarian organisations ·       Knowledge of security frameworks of major Swiss humanitarian NGOs ·       Fluency in English and at least passive knowledge of French   Time, duration and location The total workload for this role is estimated at about ten working days.
